Ethernet : An ethernet is a common type of network cable used with wired networks. This ethernet cables connects devices such as PCs, routers and switches. This type of connections are usually found in Local Area Networks (LAN) . Now the question arrise what is LAN.

What type of Ethernet cables are :

An Ethernet cables are having two types that are Category 5 and  Category 6. Category 5 and Category 6 are commonly referred as cat5 and cat6.

These cables are twisted pair cable for computer networks.  Twisted pair in the sense, it reduces electromagnetic radiation from the pair and cross talk between neighboring pairs and improves rejection of external electromagnetic interference. It is having 25-pair and having code color.

Color coding :

Each wire is identified by the combination of two colors. One of which is the major color and second one is the minor color.
Major and minor both are chosen from two different groups in 25 color combination.

Ethernet cable color coding :

The wire pairs are referred to either directly by their color combination or by the pair number.
